HERMAN BENNETT CONSULTING is an economic consulting firm for companies and governments. Our practice areas are valuation, damage assessment, financial services, transfer pricing, taxes, regulation, and technology. For over a decade, we have provided economic reports, advised legal teams, and counseled C-level clients.

Each project is personally led by Herman Bennett, PhD in Economics from MIT with ample experience in testifying. He has served as an expert witness in civil, tax and criminal trials, local and international arbitrations, SII tax audits, CMF financial proceedings, constitutional appeals, sectoral appeals, and regulated price reviews.

VALUATION / DAMAGES






1. We estimated the damage from a contract breach that reduced ticket sales for a high-demand concert. The report was presented in civil court.


2. Assessed the proportionality of a consumer-protection fine. The report was part of a constitutional challenge.


3. Estimated the market value of an OTC commodity derivative. The report was presented in an SII tax audit.


4. Served as advisers to a family office on valuation issues in a restructuring. The work helped flag potential tax-audit risks.



REGULATION






1. Quantified a utility firm’s liability for a service outage. The report was presented in a class action lawsuit.


2. Assisted an important commercial distributor in responding to an information request from competition authorities.


3. Reviewed and evaluated a spectrum allocation study. The report was presented in an appeal to the telecom regulator.


4. Assessed the cost-advantages of Uber ride-hailing services versus traditional taxis. The study was commissioned by the government and used to shape industry regulation.

MORE ABOUT HERMAN BENNETT


​PhD in Economics from MIT and Ingeniero Comercial from PUC-Chile. Former Economist at the IMF, the Central Bank of Chile, and Chile’s Ministry of Economy. Principal Consultant on 40+ projects with expertise in valuing assets, damages, and contracts, as well as in analyzing and drafting regulation. Author of financial norms in Chile’s Consumer Protection Law and leader of the team that redesigned Chile’s corporate insolvency legislation. Professor of Finance, Statistics, and Econometrics with 15+ years of teaching experience across the US, Chile, and Mexico. Former Visiting Professor of Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. Has taught fintech programs for regulators, transfer pricing courses at law schools, and capstone project courses at business schools. Author of the book Normativa Tributaria de Precios de Transferencia (Editorial Tirant lo Blanch, Spain, 2025).
